You are here: Retirement Choices

Choosing Wisely

Nova Scotia is becoming a popular and wise choice as a Sailingseasonal-home or   retirement destination.  With its moderate   temperatures, endless tourist attractions, outdoor   activities, Celtic music, arts and theatre, beautiful   scenery, universal health care, ocean breezes,   and reasonably priced properties, Nova Scotia   offers everything a person could ask for (except,   perhaps, warm weather in the winter, and for that,   you might consider staying part-time in Florida!).

Perhaps you love gardening.  Some areas, such as the Annapolis Valley, are particularly fertile, and most of Nova Scotia enjoys a long growing-season.  It's also possible to grow greens and carrots throughout the winter in an unheated greenhouse in this province.  A fairly new sight is the vineyard.  Grapes are being raised throughout Nova Scotia on warm, southern slopes, a good indication of the soil and climate found here.

But gardening can be taken to new heights.  If you're one of those people who've been reading Mother Earth News for decades and have dreamed of homesteading but thought it out of reach, take a chance, come to Nova Scotia and look for a wonderful old house with a few acres.  Then, you can drag out those old magazines; reread them; and begin to live your dream!  It's a rewarding lifestyle for those with good health, and a longing for organic food and an active lifestyle.

And if homesteading's not for you...  There are excellent golf courses all over Nova   Scotia; sailing clubs; sea kayaking organizations;   equestrian centres; antique car rallies; fishing,   motorcycling, whale-watching, hiking and skiing   opportunities etc., etc.  And if you prefer a quiet lifestyle,   sitting in a rocking-chair watching the waves crash on the   shore, then that, too, could be arranged.  Nova Scotia is a   land of promises kept!
